Carbon Anode Scrap

Carbon Anode Scrap is also known as Carbon Blocks, Anode Butts, Spent Anode or Anode Scrap. It is the residue of the prebaked anode carbon block which is used in the electrolytic tank. Reacting with electrolyte over a long period of time, it has high element of electrolyte including aluminium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, fluorine, lithium etc. Carbon Anode scrap is high in calorific value and low in the moisture, the calorie of 1 ton anode scrap is equivalent to that of 1.5 ton metallurgical coke or foundry coke.

After being cleaned, anode scrap can be reused in the process of producing anode material. Anode scrap can be divided into different sizes by crushing and screening like 100-500, 10-30mm, 30-80mm, 1-5 mm etc.

After Sieving, the anode scrap particles with a size 1-5 mm are washed to remove ash content and manually picked and dried just to ensure that it is free from any foreign particles and impurities. With up to 97% content of fixed carbon, it can be directly used as the raw material for low-end carburant, or be combined with other carburant to increase carbon content.

It is used as a kind of aggregate in the process of producing anode block or anode paste. It can also be used as the smelting fuel, cupola furnace as fuel, carburant for foundry or carbon paste with electrically calcined anthracite coal.
The High calorific value and low sulphur content makes is reusable.

Carbon Anode Scrap is used as alternative to foundry coke. As Coke prices are souring high, foundries can buy this alternative raw material Carbon Anode scrap. Saving more than 25 - 30% of cost and due to high caloric value, can save on quantity also. Carbon anode butt has 97-98% Carbon while traditional Foundry coke has 78-85% Carbon content, So 1 ton of Anode Scrap has caloric value of 1.5 ton of traditional Coke, So buyers save on the cost too.

As the sulphur content of anode scrap actually depends on the calcined petroleum coke used to produce carbon anode, the ash content usually increases slightly on the basis of calcined petroleum coke, but its ash content is much less than that of foundry coke, with its calorific value being 1.3-1.5 times of foundry coke. As a result, when the sulphur content can be controlled, anode scrap is the ideal fuel to smelt scrap metal.
